Trouble for Community Chairman over wanting destruction of property,

The Chief Eduwu-irofo, the Obasogie of Benin lead committee on peace and conflict resolution, today intervened in the willful destruction of the property of an 90 years old man by a community Chairman over non payment of development fees. The Community Chairman ordered thugs to destroy the old mans house. Governor Oshiomhole Survives Road Accident

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has survived a motor accident at Ewu Village, along the ever busy Benin-Auchi Road in Edo State on Saturday, December 28, 2013.
The incident occurred at about 9.45am at Ewu, in Edo Central Senatorial District, when a Peugeot J5 Bus filled with tomatoes and plantain apparently lost control and rammed into the Governor’s Flag Car from the opposite direction before swerving into a road side ditch.
Three vehicles in the Governor’s convoy were in front of the Governor’s Flag Car and had passed the Peugeot J5 Bus before it [J5 Bus] had direct impact with the Governor’s Car which had the Governor, his Aide-De-Camp [ADC] and his Driver as occupants.
The Governor’s Car was badly affected but the good story is that nobody sustained injuries among occupants of the Peugeot J5 Bus and that of the Governor’s.
The Peugeot J5 Bus was following a truck that was descending the Ewu Slope when it suddenly veered off into the Governor’s lane from the opposite direction and directly impacted on the Governor’s vehicle, apparently because of brake failure.
The Comrade Governor is hale and hearty, his ADC and other occupants of the Peugeot J5 are also in good condition.
A statement signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser, Media & Public Affairs, Kassim Afegbua read: “This is to assure all good people of Edo State that there is no cause for alarm. Their loving Comrade Governor is fine, hale and hearty as well as other occupants of the other affected vehicle. The Comrade Governor is wishing everyone a prosperous New Year ahead.”
The incident has been reported to the Divisional Police Station at Ewu for further investigation.
Governor Oshiomhole was on his way back to Benin City from his Iyamho Village when the incident happened.

Investing in the tourist potentials of Benin City.

Benin City is truly a natural tourist centre in the South - South. Yesterday many families from our neighbouring states came to the City to enjoy the very few entertainment centres in the City. The major attraction for them was the new Kada Plaza and the Ogba Zoo. More people should invest in establishing family entertainment centres.

Why are there no price reduction for products during Christmas in Nigeria?

All over the world, Christmas is a period to give, hence price slash and reduction. Not so in Nigeria where, Christmas is seen as a period to massively exploit Nigerians by, the small and big businesses. Children are not left out of the exploitation, as they are made to pay $10 for a 1 minute visit with Father Christmas, who in turn, gives then a note book and a pen worth $1.

Here is my response to the post on facebook.

You made a great observation, I think most of those price discounts overseas comes from the product manufacturers. Here in Nigeria will do not produce anything, we are imported goods consumer so distributors can do much. The other thing is that since we do not have social safety nets, our people sees every opportunity as chance to move up the lada. They become profit driven and exploitative.

Edo councillors stranded in Italy after retreat

Lawmakers in Orhionmon Local Government Area of Edo State now find it difficult to return to Nigeria from Italy, where the council chairman had reportedly taken them to for a retreat.
The Edo State House of Assembly, acting on a letter received from the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, had, on Monday, announced the suspension of the council chairman, along with that of Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the state.
While the council chairman was said to have heard of his planned suspension and immediately returned to the country, the lawmakers have not been able to return to Nigeria for a reason someone close to the council described as logistics.
Trouble started for the now embattled chairman when youths in the council, under the umbrella of Orhionmwon Youths Congress, (OYC), staged a protest last week against alleged looting and wasteful spending of fund meant for the council by the chairman.
The protesting youths carried placards with inscriptions such as ‘Stop looting Orhionmwon’s treasury,’ ‘Develop Abudu now,’ ‘Probe Ibierutowhen,’ and others said their action was informed by information that Ibierutowhen had abandoned his duty at Abudu and had travelled to Italy with his wife, children and council lawmakers.
Mr John Osazuwa, leader of the youths, said they had written a letter to the state governor and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the many corrupt practices going on in the council, since Ibierutowhen took office in April this year.
