It is bestowed on influential sons of Benin Kingdom and there is only one Esama at a time. Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion was made the Esama of Benin Kingdom by the highly respected Oba of Benin, Oba Akenzua 11 of blessed memory. Oba Akenzua you will recall is the father of the present Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa of Benin.
