MO TOWN ELECTS FIRST BLACK MAYOR, 80 PERCENT OF POLICE FORCE IMMEDIATELY RESIGNS (VIDEO)

Parma, Missouri, situated less than a three-hour drive from Ferguson, recently made town history by electing its first African-American female mayor. By just 37 votes, Tyrus Byrd unseated Mayor Randall Ramsey from his 37-year position.

Five of the six police officers on the force celebrated this momentous occasion by taking a permanent vacation. According to the KFVS, the officers gave absolutely no notice, and their resignation was immediate as of just hours prior to the Mayor-elect’s swearing-in.

In addition, the city attorney, clerk, and water treatment supervisor resigned their positions, all citing “safety concerns” in their resignation letters, according to outgoing Mayor Ramsey.

Byrd previously served as city clerk, and does missionary work. She says her first order of business will be to help “clean up the city.”

Residents seem unconcerned for their safety in the wake of the majority of the police force quitting.

“I think it was pretty dirty the way they all quit without giving her a chance,” resident Martha Miller told KFVS. “But I don’t think they hurt the town by quitting, because who needs six police for 740 people?”

“They resigned the minute they found out Randall didn’t get mayor again. They all abandoned the town immediately which shows how much they really cared about the town and its citizens and the real reason they quit is due to something other than ‘safety issues,’ resident Wendy Stafford wrote on KFVS’s website.

Their free ride was just cut off. We have been trying for YEARS to get someone to listen to the citizens about the dealings going on and no one until now wanted to listen. TYUS BYRD WE THANK THE GOOD LORD FOR SENDING YOU TO PARMA. The citizens of Parma are behind you 100% and will work with you to restore OUR town.

Others, of course, feel that they all just packed up their sheets and hoods…and left.

Amid the sea of conjectures, Bird had no comment on the mass resignations, but she says she still has not seen the letters explaining why so many employees would choose to quit the moment an African-American became Mayor.
