The lordship/tyranny of the minority in Edo State.

Highlighting the lordship or the tyranny of the minority in Edo State. Hon Mathew Iduoriyekemwen has this to say; Political Leaders in Edo Central and Edo North can boastfully say that Hon Isiah Osifo and Hon Mathew Iduoriyekemwen are my Political followers, but there are no Politician in Edo Central and Edo North that are followers of any Edo South Politician? He said this @ the Benin Development Union Cultural Reception/Dinner in Honour of Prof Osayuki Godwin Oshodin, Vice Chancellor University of Benin, held today 19th October 2013 @ Duoban Hotel, Giwa Amu Road, GRA Benin City.

Oshiomhole signs death penalty law for kidnapping

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State signing the kidnapping prohibition bill into law at the Government House, Benin on Friday. The law prescribes death penalty for kidnappers.GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, on Friday, signed the state’s “Kidnapping Prohibition Law 2009” as amended by the Edo State House of Assembly into law.

The law prescribes death penalty on kidnappers in the state.

Appending his signature to the bill on Friday, the governor said, “as reluctant as one would want to be in matters of life and death, I am convinced that the overriding public interest now dictates that we invoke the maximum penalty available in our law to all those involved in the act of kidnapping.
Anyone sentenced and convicted, I will sign the death warrant.

“But criminals have a choice to abstain from criminality, kidnapping and killing so that they in turn can live and enjoy the good things of life,” he added.

Governor Oshiomhole pointed out that those who argued that the problem of kidnapping stems from unemployment should not simplify a very complex issue, saying that kidnappers do not respect state, national or international boundaries.

He assured the people of Edo State that everything was being done to ensure that security agencies put in place comprehensive network that would ensure effective policing of the security flash points across the state.

“I am convinced that all of us in the three arms of government have a responsibility to make laws and enforce those laws in a way that will send signals to those involved in various acts of criminality, be they kidnappers, murderers, rapists and whoever they may be, that security agencies are now more than ever before, ready to ensure that Edo is too hot for criminals to operate.

“I am aware from reports of those who have been arrested that the overwhelming majority of these criminals are migrant criminals who come from neighbouring states and sometimes from far away states to perpetrate various crimes in Edo state and escaped back to their states across the country,” he said.

Big up for the Police and SSS.

The funny weather of Benin City.

The funny weather of Benin City. Today 18th October 2013 started out as a bright sunny day, many residence left home all dressed up for a nice sunny day. The afternoon came with heavy rains and the streets are flooded again. The weather services here are not able to tell the public how the days' weather is going to look like. I am not sure if it is lack of equipment or the inability of Television and Radio Stations to access weather services that are available on the internet. Sites like AccuWeather.com can help these people bring accurate weather prediction to the populace.

Still on the proposed sales of Edo House in Lagos.

The Edo House in Lagos is and will in the next few years become the most valuable assets of the people of Edo State, and we do not want it to become any ones individual most valued property. The house is seating directly across the prime Atlantic City development been executed by the Lagos State government. Also, the satisfaction many Edos get from knowing that our fore-bearers put that asset in place for their future generations can not be quantified. My advice again to the Governor is to back off.

Among the 55 were also armed robbers, child defilers, cultists and car snatchers. Ammunition were also recovered from them.
Adebanjo said: “We have arrested some of the kidnap kingpins. Some are still being interrogated. They are the ones involved in the kidnapping of some persons in Benin. I can tell you that the war against kidnappers in ongoing.

We ‘re ready— Police
“We are not relenting. The job of protecting our people is a tough one. But we are doing our best to ensure we work day and night. Even though these criminals are giving us a lot of problems, we will continue to pursue them until we apprehend them.”
Speaking on the preparedness of the police to check kidnapping ad other violent crimes this Sallah, Adebanjo said: “As for Sallah, the police is very ready. We had a meeting with all the Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, weekend.

NBA boycott
Meantime, members of Benin and Ekpoma branches of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, have extended their boycott of courts for another week to protest what they described as incessant kidnapping in the state.
The association had stayed away from court sittings since last week, to protest the kidnap of Justice Daniel Okungbowa, who was released last Sunday.
Vanguard learnt that the kidnappers of Justice Okungbowa may have cut off one of the fingers in his left hand.
Though this was yet to be confirmed, it was learnt that it might be one of things that angered members of the association into prolonging the court boycott for another one week.
It was learnt that officials of NBA informed their members of Okungbowa’s release at a meeting on Sunday in Benin City and that was where they lamented the harrowing experience he went through in the hands of his kidnappers.
Efforts made to reach the judge proved abortive. Vanguard was informed at his Benin residence, by security operatives that he was not in town.
NBA chairmen react
However, chairman of the Benin branch of NBA, Mr. Oriame Akere, told Vanguard: “In our monthly meeting, yesterday (Sunday), we agreed that we should boycott court till Monday next week.
“The reason is that we are protesting the insecurity in Benin and along the Benin-Abuja road. The judge has been released and we are happy for that. But we are not happy with the general insecurity.”
Also, chairman of Ekpoma branch, where Justice Okungbowa sits, Bola Adelanke, said: “We have passed a resolution that we will be on strike until he is released and we thank God he has been released.
“But the major thing is that security agencies have to do more so that the issue of kidnapping is solved permanently. Government should empower the youths so that they can be gainfully employed and take their mind off crime.”
Asked to confirm if the judge’s finger was chopped off, Adelanke said: “I have not seen him but I also heard it. I cannot confirm that now because I have not seen him personally.”

In the beginning APC (ACN,ANPP,CPC) marketed one man one vote to Nigerians and the PDP was forced to abide by it. In time we had fair elections all over the country. Then the Chief proponent of one man one vote decided to conduct a local government elections after 5 years in office, where voting materials arrived 30 minutes to the close of elections, yet he declared results. I remember posting on Facebook that APC should forget the 2015 elections. If you must come to equity you do so with clean hands. The  PDP is simply saying we are masters of that game. Q.E.D. Please check out my post of April 25th,2013 First to do e non dey pain.
A few weeks back I had recommended that we needed an OPC like structure in Edo State to fight the Kidnapping menace. As always the Edos do not need any confab to synchronize their positions on any issue. I thank those who initiated this move as it is an idea whose time has come. Kudos to the Traditional institutions, the SSS, Police and the government.
